Peter Paul Rubens
Ushio Shinohara

CY Twombly,
was an American artist well known for his large-scale, freely scribbled, calligraphic-style graffiti paintings, on solid fields of mostly gray, tan, or off-white colours. He exhibited his paintings worldwide. Twombly's paintings blur the line between drawing and painting. Many of his best-known paintings of the late 1960s are reminiscent of a school blackboard on which someone has practiced cursive "e"s. Twombly had at this point discard ed painting figurative, representational subject-matter, citing the line or smudge – each mark with its own history – as its proper subject. Twombly has influenced me greatly since i saw his work at the 'Turner, Monet, Twombly' Exhibition at liverpool tate. His large scale pieces instantly drew my attention and i Loved his expressive style and application of paint and colour.

Nenad Zilic
Born in 1957. Academy of Fine Arts Belgrade from 1976 to 1981. Postgraduated studies in Belgrade and Vienna (Austria). Exhibits since 1981 in Yugoslavia, Germany, UK, Portugal, France, Russia. Winner of several awards. Since 1994 lives and works in France (Paris and Normandy).

The intensity of colour, made particularly vibrant by nocturnal backgrounds, the violence of the image in Nenad Zilic's paintings, create in the viewer that mixture of admiration and shock which has always characterized an authentic act. Some of his paintings are based on the emblematic images of European painting and sculpture: Winged Victory, Icarus, The Crucifixion, Eve...

I became fond of Zilic when researching artist's for my first year FMP.
His colour and Symbolic backgrounds create a very interesting paintings, along with the abstract technique of painting.

Henri Matisse
was a French artist, known for his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter.] Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp, as one of the three artists who helped to define the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the opening decades of the 20th century, responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture. Although he was initially labelled a Fauve (wild beast), by the 1920s he was increasingly hailed as an upholder of the classical tradition in French painting. His mastery of the expressive language of colour and drawing, displayed in a body of work spanning over a half-century, won him recognition as a leading figure in modern art.
I have been constantly influenced by Matisse because of his colour use and his prints. He has been a constant influence on my projects and work.

Hans Hofmann
Hofmann was born in Weißenburg, Bavaria on March 21, 1880, the son of Theodor and Franziska Hofmann. When he was six he moved with his family to Munich. Here his father took a job with the government. Starting at a young age, Hofmann gravitated towards science and mathematics. At age sixteen, he started work with the Bavarian government as assistant to the director of Public Works where he was able to increase his knowledge of mathematics. He went on to develop and patent such devices as the electromagnetic comptometer, a radar device for ships at sea, a sensitised light bulb, and a portable freezer unit for military use. Even with such great abilities in science and mathematics, Hofmann became interested in creative studies, beginning educational art training after the death of his father. In 1932 he immigrated to the United States, where he resided until the end of his life.
Hofmann's art work is distinguished by a rigorous concern with pictorial structure, spatial illusion, and color relationships. His completely abstract works date from the 1940s.Hofmann believed that abstract art was a way to get at the important reality. He famously stated that "the ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak".

I love Hofmann's work because of his simplicity. He Does not over complicate his compositions and he has a great understanding of colour.
